LEWIS - The bridge in Lewis over the Northway will be renamed in honor of a local fallen hero. The Essex County Board of Supervisors unanimously seconded a resolution during their Sept. 2 monthly board meeting to name the bridge as the Sgt. Justin Wrisley Garvey Memorial Bridge.

Garvey was deployed to Kuwait and then to Iraq. On July 20th 2003, Garvey, along with fellow soldier Jason Jordan and an Iraqi civilian aid worker were ambushed and killed.

"We are going to shoot for Veteran's Day for the ceremony to name the bridge," said Willsboro Supervisor Bob Ashline. Ashline said the next steps before the bridge is officially renamed will be to petition the county for signs that will be placed on the bridge, with the hopes of everything being done in time for a November 11th, 2003 ceremony.
